I’m working on building a fancier menu — I just redid my website from the ground up, so this is still a little bit of a work in progress. In the meantime, here are a couple other links which would normally be at home in the menu:

This site is built with Bridgetown, a Ruby-based site generator. Ruby was the first programming language I really learned, and it’s still a joy to use. Text is set in the Libertinus family of fonts. I also use Tailwind CSS, and a handful of JavaScript libraries make the site even fancier: Headroom.js to show and hide the header, unlazy for lazy-loading images in conjunction with the ingenious ThumbHash format, AutoAnimate for (who would have guessed) animations, bluesky-comments-tag for blog comments, and Font Awesome for icons. It’s hosted on Cloudflare Pages, and it lives at this repository.
This all began life in 2018 as a Middleman website. Middleman is a different Ruby-based static site generator, and it’s still awesome. You can explore the old version of this website here (link coming soon).
As I wrote some seven years ago,
I began putting this together around May 2018, but I got held up over the summer because of a few complications, so I returned in earnest in September, and the initial/beta version went live soon thereafter. There’ve been plenty of mishaps along the way (including me literally deleting the files off my computer; thank goodness for Time Machine…), and I couldn’t have done it without Brian Oldfield, whose indispensable help has gotten me out of many metaphorical corners I’ve tiled myself into. Actually, it was his website that originally inspired me to use Middleman! Many thanks.
